Raiders Swim and Dive Teams Sweep Butler on Senior Night
Seneca Valley swimmers and divers wrapped up their regular season with another pair of wins against Butler in their final home meet. Raider girls won 101-80 and boys 102-73. The meet started with a Senior Night celebration for the team's graduating seniors: Owen Blazer, Kenzie Clark, Maya Dietz, Meghan Keppler, Julia Listwak, Maddie Montalbano, Max Skeen, Emily Tekelenburg, and Pace Zec. From there, SV Divers Kenzie Clark and Trevor Elliott each took the top spot in diving competition with support from Meghan Keppler and Maddie Montalbano in 2nd and 3rd place for girls and Matt and Jeremiah Laslavic in 2nd and 3rd place for boys. Kenzie Clark also broke her own school record set just a few weeks ago, scoring an amazing 289.70 points in her final diving meet at Seneca Valley. The Raider swimmers took an early lead over Butler and never let up. Sophomores Garrett Rogos and Owen Tekelenburg earned their first-ever WPIAL qualifying times in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke respectively, and Freshman Gavin Blazer earned his third WPIAL cut in the 100-back as well. Frankie Walton (50 freestyle), Logan Hockenberry (100 breaststroke), Maya Dietz (100 butterfly), Dilini Ranaweera (100 fly), and Kevin Donaldson (100 free) all had personal best times in their races. With the SVSC student section cheering their hearts out, the girl divers joining in the swimming fun by forming a relay team for the 200 freestyle relay, and the coaches doing belly smackers into the pool at the end of the meet, it was a joyous and celebratory last meet in the SV Natatorium. The team will miss the old pool but is eagerly looking forward to being in their beautiful new home next season!
The Raiders Swimmers and Divers finished out their season with a 12-1 record for both boys and girls, with 35 swimmers and divers earning a total of 98 WPIAL cuts. You'll be able to identify WPIAL swimmers and divers in the hall and in class today by their crazy colored hair! Next up for the team is the WPIAL Diving Championships this Saturday at North Allegheny High School, followed by the WPIAL Swimming Championships next Thursday and Friday at Pitt. Good luck Raiders!
