Freshman Rachel Spear was the first-place winner at Seneca Valley in the Mathematical Association of America’s American Mathematics Competition (MAA AMC) 10. Her high score also qualified her to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).
The AMC 10 and 12 are the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Miss Spear will find out if she advances to the IMO once her national exam is scored later this summer.
The MAA AMC program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers. The competitions prepare students for future careers in STEM fields and help positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics.
The Mathematical Association of America is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts. Learn more at maa.org.
