Substitutes (Teachers & Nurses)
Compensation is:
- $125/day for both certified and emergency substitute teachers/nurses.
- $150/day for any day-to-day teacher/nurse substitute (certified or emergency) that has subbed in the district for 31+ days this school year. Days do not need to be consecutive and may be cumulative.
- $150/day for Seneca Valley retirees.
- $175/day for SV retired subs that have subbed in the District for 31+ days this school year. Days do not need to be consecutive and may be cumulative.
- $175/day for any day-to-day teacher substitute that subs in a multiple support classroom on day one of that assignment.
- Any day-to-day teacher substitute that subs in a paraprofessional role in a multiple supports classroom will receive $150 per day.
What you need:
- PA standard teaching application downloaded from the PA Dept. of Education. Please note at the top of the application that it is for “Day to Day Substituting”.
- A copy of PA teaching certificate (i.e., English, Mathematics, Chemistry, etc.) from an accredited college or university.
- Legible copy of official college transcript(s) – (undergraduate and graduate) (an original transcript is not needed unless you wish to provide one)
- Clearances
- Act 24 Arrest & Conviction Form
- Resume
- Three letters of reference
- Obtain a Physical and Tuberculin Test* - download the School Health Personnel Form (School Personnel Health Record) and take with you to your physical - doctor must use this form
*Tuberculin Test must be no older than three months at time of Board approval

If you do not hold a teaching certificate, but possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, you need to successfully complete the Guest Teacher Training Program offered by the Midwestern Intermediate Unit (IU4) to receive an Emergency Permit.

If you hold a teaching certificate from another state, you will also need to apply for an Emergency Permit. Please contact the Human Resources Department at substitute@svsd.net or (724) 452-6040 ext. 1652, to receive information.
All substitute packets from regular certified teachers or emergency certified teachers may be emailed to substitute@svsd.net, mailed to the district at the address below, or you may drop off your packet in person at the District Administration Office on our secondary campus.

SENATE BILL 1312 – Effective September 11, 2016
The provision will allow students in education who are training to be teachers and have earned 60 semester hours from an accredited four–year Pennsylvania college or university to serve as substitute teachers for a limited time period. If you have any questions regarding the substitute process, please call the Human Resources Department of the Seneca Valley School District at (724) 452-6040, ext. 1652. Those who successfully complete the review process and the training program (if necessary) will qualify to substitute in the Seneca Valley School District. EOE.
BOARD APPROVAL WILL NOT OCCUR UNTIL ALL ITEMS ARE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR SUBSTITUTE PACKET. THIS INCLUDES ALL CLEARANCES AND ACT 168 FORMS.
