SV All-Star Club

For the month of March, we are pleased to announce the newest member inducted into the SV All-Star Club, Ms. Jessica King, security officer for Seneca Valley Senior High School.

Ms. King and family

The SV All-Star Club is an awards program developed by the District to express our gratitude to Seneca Valley classified employees (administrative assistants, paraprofessionals, maintenance, cafeteria), bus drivers and security guards who are often the unsung heroes of our schools. We recognize a new member of this elite all-star club each month.

Ms. King has worked for the district for several years, beginning her service as a roaming security officer on the secondary campus. She would walk the hallways, parking lots and fill in for various posts. Whenever additional support was needed, she stepped in, whether for a single day, week or extended periods of time.

“Jessica was asked to consider stepping into the site supervisor role,” said Officer Jason Young, Safety and Security Director. “She accepted the responsibility without hesitation and has since worked closely with our previous Security All-Star Award recipient, Logan Ellsworth. Together, they have helped move our security department forward in a positive and productive way.”

Officer Young added, “Over the past year, Jessica has taken on additional responsibilities, including playing a significant role in the interview and selection process for contracted security officers to ensure they are well-suited for work in an educational setting. Our district’s security program includes both district security officers and contracted security officers. While they are employed by different organizations, we operate as one team with the shared goal of supporting safe and secure schools. Jessica oversees our contracted security officers and works closely with district staff to ensure consistency and collaboration.”

Ms. King has demonstrated her value to the entire security team through her organization, leadership and thoughtful decision making. She consistently goes above and beyond in her role, ensuring that everyone feels safe and respected.

“I’m very grateful for this recognition, and I’m proud to be a part of this team,” said Ms. King. “I especially want to thank Jason Young for his leadership and guidance, and I look forward to continuing to help lead and support our security team in the years ahead.”

For February, we are pleased to announce the newest member inducted into the SV All-Star Club, Mrs. Lisa Martin, paraprofessional at Rowan Elementary School.

“Mrs. Martin is the definition of a team player,” said Dr. Tina Wentz, Principal of Rowan Elementary School. “No matter the need, no matter the day, she steps in with a willing heart and a positive attitude. She understands that supporting students takes all of us working together, and she consistently shows up not just for the children she directly serves, but for her colleagues as well. If someone needs an extra set of hands, a listening ear, or encouragement, Mrs. Martin is there.”

Mrs. Martin has a remarkable ability to connect with students in a way that makes them feel safe, understood and valued. She always sees the best in children — even on their hardest days. When others might see a challenge, Mrs. Martin sees potential. When a child feels discouraged, Mrs. Martin offers hope. That unwavering belief in her students makes an immeasurable difference.

Dr. Wentz added, “She goes above and beyond in ways both big and small, often quietly, without seeking recognition. Whether it’s staying a few extra minutes to ensure a student feels successful, offering reassurance during a tough moment, or bringing positivity into every room she enters, Mrs. Martin’s impact is felt throughout our entire building.”

Mrs. Martin is such an asset to our District. Because of her, our students thrive, our staff is stronger, and our entire school community shines brighter.

For January, we are pleased to announce the newest member inducted into the SV All-Star Club, Ms. Kayla Moore, bus driver for First Student, Inc.

Kayla has been driving for Seneca Valley for four years and has had her CDL for nine years. She is such an asset to our team going above and beyond and always putting the safety of our students first. A perfect example of Ms. Moore’s dedication to safety occurred on Friday afternoon, Dec. 19 when an unexpected snowstorm hit as buses were dismissing from the secondary campus.

Conditions deteriorated quickly, especially Yellow Creek Rd. in Forward Township, a steep, icy stretch maintained by PennDOT. Because the storm came so fast, PennDOT had not yet treated the road. When Ms. Moore reached the top of the hill that leads to East Lancaster Rd., she saw a box truck stuck at the bottom in the middle of the road. The hill was covered in ice, and there was no guardrail on the right ride, only a drop to the creek. Faced with these hazards, Ms. Moore made the calm, professional decision not to attempt the descent. She immediately called in, explained her plan and kept the two students on board calm and safe while waiting at the top.

An SV van arrived at the bottom of the hill, and the students were able to walk down safely. Later, PennDOT treated the road, and Ms. Moore skillfully navigated the empty school bus down the hill using her knowledge and experience.

“Throughout the entire ordeal, Kayla was never rattled,” said Dr. Tony Babusci, Transportation Director. “She communicated clearly, stayed composed and made sound decisions that ensured everyone got home safely.”

Kayla’s actions reflect the highest standards of safety and professionalism. We are grateful for her calm leadership, commitment to our students, and we are fortunate to have her as part of our team.

For the month of November, we are pleased to announce the newest member inducted into the SV All-Star Club, Mr. Bob Buchanan, Seneca Valley Intermediate High School Custodian.

Mr. Buchanan has dedicated 10 years to the Seneca Valley School District and eight years to serving our country in the U.S. Army. A proud veteran, Mr. Buchanan served in Operation Desert Storm and has been honored with numerous military decorations, including an Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.

“I can’t think of a more deserving recipient of the SV All-Star Club recognition than Mr. Bob Buchanan,” said Mr. Dan Guerra, Assistant Principal of Seneca Valley Intermediate High School. “Respected by both staff and students, Bob goes far beyond his role as custodian—he builds relationships, offers guidance, and brings heart to our school. Spend just a few minutes in the IHS cafeteria during lunch and you’ll see Bob in action: fist-bumping students, chatting with them and offering words of wisdom when needed. In fact, not many people can say they’ve inspired a cheering section of high school students to attend a school board meeting.”

Mr. Guerra added, “Bob takes great pride in his work, and his dedication reflects how he approaches life: no task is too big, and everything he does is driven by a genuine love for people. After hours, conversations with Bob often turn to his beloved Steelers, fishing trips to Lake Erie, or his greatest joy—his family. If there were an All-Star Club for being a family man, Bob would be a first-ballot inductee.”

With November being designated as National Veterans and Military Families Month, it’s especially fitting to honor Mr. Buchanan, not only for his service to our school, but also to our country. His commitment to excellence and duty shines through in all he does.

For the month of October, we are pleased to announce the newest member inducted into the SV All-Star Club, Mr. Dave McCabe, Haine Elementary and Middle School Custodian.

Mr. McCabe is affectionately known as “Mr. Dave” throughout Haine Elementary and Middle School. From the start of summer, he worked collaboratively to ensure that Haine was not only ready for the return of students and staff, but that it exceeded expectations in cleanliness, organization, and overall preparedness. His meticulous attention to detail and pride in his work are evident in all he does.

“Dave consistently demonstrates a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a sincere commitment to the well-being of our school,” said Dr. Kristen White, Principal of Haine Elementary School. “No task is too big or too small—he approaches each one with care, efficiency, and a high standard of excellence. His helpful nature, paired with his respectful and compassionate demeanor, makes him a key member of the Haine family.”

“Dave has a natural ability to connect with students,” added Dr. White. “Whether offering high fives, singing the days of the week song, or using playful voices to comfort a child having a tough day, his interactions bring joy and reassurance. It’s impossible not to smile when witnessing the way he engages with our children.”

“Every day I get to be ‘Mr. Dave,’” said Mr. McCabe. “My mission is to create a safe and clean environment for students and staff, and I feel completely embraced by everyone in the building.”

Mr. McCabe exemplifies excellence in every aspect of his role and is truly deserving of this recognition. We are grateful for the dedication, reliability, and the outstanding character he brings to school each day.
