Ryan Gloyer Memorial Run 2024
Over 560 people joined us in honoring the life and legacy of fallen hometown hero Sgt. 1st Class Ryan A. Gloyer (SV '00) who died courageously in battle in Afghanistan in 2016.
The Seneca Valley Foundation (SVF) welcomed participants, families and community members to the 2nd Annual SFC Ryan Gloyer Memorial (5K Run/Walk) in memory of Sgt. Gloyer's work ethic, drive and resilience.
On a beautiful fall morning, the Memorial Run was held as an opportunity to share the attitudes and beliefs that make Sgt. Gloyer a role model for everyone in the Seneca Valley School District. The event raised over $40,000! Proceeds from the race go toward continued educational initiatives at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS), that reflect Ryan’s commitment to fitness, inclusiveness, perseverance and kindness, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire others.
Many thanks to the SVF for a successful and inspirational event! Congratulations to SV junior Riley McGee on his first-place finish!
Additionally, leading up to the race, seventh and eighth graders of RGMS gathered during an assembly where they learned firsthand about the student, teacher and soldier for which their building was named. During the assembly, Ryan’s father (who also served in the U.S. Navy), friends, SV graduates and a member of the Green Berets spoke about his life, legacy and the impact he made on the lives around him. Following the presentation, students went back to their classrooms and made cards for local veteran organizations.
