How to Use this Program of Studies

The Program of Studies offers valuable information about courses you may take while in high school. It includes descriptions of required, advanced, and elective courses for each grade level as well as the curriculum. In addition, you'll find graduation requirements, course sequences, and career clusters to consider as you construct your schedule.

Prospective employers, colleges, vocational/technical schools, and military branches value doing well in varied and challenging courses.  Therefore, it's important to gain experience in fields of interest and to garner good grades and a thorough understanding of what you are studying.

Which courses should you take?

Developing a schedule is a team effort that includes input from teachers, parents, school counselors, and the student.  You'll want to refer to subject requirements for graduation and options available to you.  Choose your courses carefully, keeping in mind your educational and career goals.  Research the career clusters to help choose courses aligned with your plans.

It's important to give careful thought and consideration when choosing interesting and rewarding courses for your high school experience.  Decisions about course selections may come from your interest areas, skills, strengths, and abilities, all of which contribute to success in school and beyond.  To ensure you get the courses your want - including online classes - you'll want to pay close attention to requisite and co-requisite courses as well.

Finalizing Your Schedule

Students will complete a schedule using the online system.  Teachers provide recommendations for core classes and some electives such as world languages, so it's necessary to weigh their input as they know curriculum and what it takes to succeed at the next level.  Elective and special interest areas will round out the school day which must total a minimum of 6.0 credits a year (although most students carry 7.0).

Specific questions relating to program options or course selections should be directed to the school counselor to whom you are assigned, creating a schedule that works for you.
