Our staff has been provided mindfulness professional development. The goals of mindfulness training include:
- Reducing stress
- Increasing focus
- Increasing emotional regulation
- Increasing compassion
- Increasing resilience to future stresses
Practicing mindfulness has measurable effects on the brain including:
- Increasing the activity in the prefrontal cortex (the decision-making center of the brain)
- Increasing grey matter through practices resulting in increasing the capacity to learn and remember
- Better impulse control related to shrinking emotional responses centered on the amygdala
