Mindfulness

Our staff has been provided mindfulness professional development.  The goals of mindfulness training include:

  • Reducing stress
  • Increasing focus
  • Increasing emotional regulation
  • Increasing compassion
  • Increasing resilience to future stresses

Practicing mindfulness has measurable effects on the brain including:

  • Increasing the activity in the prefrontal cortex (the decision-making center of the brain)
  • Increasing grey matter through practices resulting in increasing the capacity to learn and remember
  • Better impulse control related to shrinking emotional responses centered on the amygdala
