Assistant Superintendent, Grades K-6
Dr. Sean McCarty is the Seneca Valley Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, Grades K-6.
Dr. McCarty played a central role in the design, development and production of the dynamic new Ehrman Crest Elementary / Middle School, which opened in August 2022. The building project united the District, CannonDesign and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in a planned effort to advance bold new opportunities for school design. Dr. McCarty is extremely pleased that Ehrman Crest is fast becoming a model K-6 facility that demonstrates why physical learning environments play a key role in educational outcomes.
In the years he has led the District’s elementary team, he has overseen the development and expansion of a very successful elementary foreign language program that is now reaching thousands of children as young as six years of age. He is also credited for introducing and initiating the District's wildly popular Creativity, Innovation & Research Center (CIRC), which serves as a model program for K-6 schools across the State. Under his guidance, several of the District’s elementary schools earned state and national accolades for Title I Reading, bullying prevention and community service.
Dr. McCarty also has previous experience as the principal of Ryan Gloyer Middle School in the Seneca Valley School District. During his tenure there, the building was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, a National Middle School Association Schools to Watch Middle School and a Top 10 Middle School in the Pittsburgh Business Times. He was also recognized by the School Library Journal as a finalist as one of the top ten administrators in the United States for library support. He was also the Seneca Valley Middle School Assistant Principal for three years. During this time frame, the middle school was recognized as a Don Eichhorn Award Winner for a top middle school in the state of Pennsylvania.
Prior to his administrative roles, Dr. McCarty was a special education teacher where he was nominated as the district representative for the Sallie Mae First Class Teacher award. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Schools to Watch State Evaluation Team, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals (PAESSP) and Pennsylvania Association for Middle Level Education (PAMLE).
Dr. McCarty earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Slippery Rock University in elementary and special education. He earned his Master’s Degree and Doctorate in education from the University of Pittsburgh. An Adams Township resident, he lives there with his wife and three children.
