And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. ~Sylvia Plath

Welcome to the Condors. I am your English teacher, Mrs. Schollaert. This year in English class, we will be focusing heavily on writing. I strongly believe that writing is the gateway to success in education. I believe that it is directly related to strong reading skills which in turn allows for critical thinking skills to develop and to be used across all disciplines. Don't stress, I am not the type of teacher who will make you write until your fingers fall off. I believe that good revision skills are the key to developing strong writing, so instead of writing and writing and writing, you will write and revise, revise, revise. Famous poet, Naomi Shihab Nye, explained an experience she had with a teacher about revision:

"If a teacher told me to revise, I thought that meant my writing was a broken-down car that needed to go to the repair shop. I felt insulted. I didn't realize the teacher was saying, 'Make it shine. It's worth it.' Now I see revision as a beautiful word of hope. It's a new vision of something. It means you don't have to be perfect the first time. What a relief!
    "

We will be using this philosophy a lot this year. Our goal is not to tell me you see the sun, but to show me its rays reflecting off the pavement. I promise it will be fun!
