Substitute Teachers and Substitute School Nurses

Here is an opportunity to have a positive impact on children, earn extra money, and have a flexible work schedule!

The Seneca Valley School District is interested in finding qualified personnel to work as substitute teachers to replace regular classroom teachers during training and/or leave time. Compensation is $90/day (Day 1-30); $100/day (Day 31+); $125 for Seneca Valley retirees.


What you need:

  • PA standard teaching application downloaded from the PA Dept. of Education. Please note at the top of the application that it is for “Day to Day Substituting”.
  • A copy of PA teaching certificate (i.e., English, Mathematics, Chemistry, etc.) from an accredited college or university.
  • Official college transcript(s) – (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Clearances
  • Resume
  • Three letters of reference
  • Obtain a Physical and Tuberculin Test - download the School Health Personnel Form ( School Personnel Health Record ) and take with you to your physical - doctor must use this form
  • Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, including two photocopied forms of identification. Acceptable forms of ID are listed as part of the form information when you link into the website
  • If you do not hold a teaching certificate but possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, you need to successfully complete a 3-day training program at the Midwestern Intermediate Unit (IU4) to receive an emergency certificate. During the training, you will visit actual classrooms, learn techniques for classroom management, and review effective teaching strategies. The training is conducted at:

The next guest teacher training program will take place on:  December 6 (8:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.), December 7 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.), December 8 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.).

If you are a candidate for the Emergency Permit Program at the Midwestern Intermediate Unit, please do not mail your packet to Seneca Valley School District.

SENATE BILL 1312 – Effective September 11, 2016
The provision will allow students in education who are training to be teachers and have earned 60 semester hours from an accredited four –year Pennsylvania college or university to serve as substitute teachers for a limited time period – no more than 10 days per district per school year.

Those who successfully complete the review process and the training program (if necessary) will qualify to substitute in the Seneca Valley School District. EOE.

Substitute Support Staff

Currently the School District compensates substitutes as follows:
Custodian / Maintenance - $11.00 / hour
Paraprofessionals - $8.50 / hour
Cafeteria - $10.00 / hour
Secretaries - $9.50 / hour

Although it is not a requirement for secretarial sub applicants to take the secretarial skills test prior to being appointed to the sub list, it is an expectation for subs to take the test once board approved as a substitute. This test measures a candidate’s typing speed, grammar, spelling, proofreading, basic computation, basic excel, and letter writing skills. The test is administered at least two times throughout the school year. The next test will be administered on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Haine Elementary School Computer Lab. The address is 1516 Haine School Rd., Cranberry Twp., 16066. Please contact Pattie Smith in the Human Resources Department to register for the test.
