2015 Lettering Requirements:
There will be new lettering standards published for the 2015 season.
1. You must earn your letter. This is an award that comes with distinction!
2. You must meet the designated qualifier standards for this season! (Published annually by the WPIAL) Each coach has a copy of the qualifying standards. The WPIAL only permits three individuals to participate from each school. If we have more than three student-athletes per event that meet or exceed the qualifying standard, the coaching staff will review the remaining lettering rules and determine whether the subsequent individual will be awarded a letter.
3. You must meet the entire academic eligibility and good citizen criteria provided by the P.I.A.A.
4. Letters given to individual varsity competition only! (coaches will make decisions on relay teams) If a relay team advances to the WPIAL finals, the coaches will award a letter to relay members provided the individuals have met all other lettering requirements that are deemed to be necessary.
5. Must participate in all section meets and team designated invites-exceptions by injury, family related emergencies, or academic concerns. Coaches must be notified in advance of any conflict. (this does not include injuries from activities outside our sport of track and field)
6. Letters will be withheld for violation of team rules, i.e. unexcused absences will be seriously considered by the coaching staff----working at a part-time job is never an excuse.
7. Must satisfactorily complete the season and return all equipment.
8. Must attend all practices unless excused by the coach for an illness, or circumstances beyond the athlete’s control. MISSING PRACTICE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF LETTER. Attendance is taken daily. Annually, there are only about 30 practices.
9. Must return all equipment loaned by S.V. H.S. WITHIN THREE DAYS OF COMPLETING YOUR SEASON.
10. Coaches have the option to letter any athlete that has suffered injury during the season and was on pace to receive a letter. (This is an injury that was directly related to track and field practice or competition)
11. Any senior who has joined the team for the first time must earn his or her letter. Seniors who have been with the program for at least three years will be awarded a letter as long as they follow all team rules and successfully complete their senior season! See above.
12. All final decisions concerning letters will be left to the Coaching staff’s discretion.
NOTE: Statisticians may earn a statistician's letter upon successful completion of their second season.
