SHS Plans for 2009 Graduation

Graduation/commencement ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, at NexTier Stadium in Jackson Township.  If inclement weather prohibits the start of the commencement\ program, the ceremonies will be held after 6 p.m., and as soon as the weather permits.  If the program cannot be started by 8 p.m. Friday evening, the ceremonies will be rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Additionally, students will receive tickets marked “Parents/Family” and tickets marked “Guests”.  These tickets will be required for admission to the stadium home side bleachers seating area.  Any additional guests will be seated on the guest side bleachers of the stadium without a ticket.  Because of limited seating, extra tickets for the home side are not available.  Indoor seating is available in the Intermediate High School for elderly and/or handicapped family members who may wish to be seated inside.   Handicapped parking is also available.

If rain/inclement weather prohibit the start of the outdoor ceremonies at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the ceremonies will be held indoors in two sessions.  The graduating class will be separated into two groups and indoor ceremonies will be held in the Intermediate High School auditorium.  Students whose last name starts with letters A-K will be seated in the auditorium at approximately 10:30 a.m. and students whose last name starts with letters L-Z will be seated immediately following that ceremony (approximately 11:30 a.m.).  Both ceremonies will be similar in format and parents of the graduating students for each individual session will be seated in the auditorium audience.  If the indoor ceremonies are required, only those people who have tickets marked “Parent/ Family” will be admitted to the Intermediate High School auditorium when their daughter/son’s section of the alphabet is graduating.  Additional seating and closed circuit television viewing of both ceremonies will be available in the cafeteria, gymnasium, and classrooms of the Intermediate High School for other family members and friends.

Because we will wait until the very last minute to cancel the outdoor ceremony, it is important that you follow these detailed instructions.  Please be sure to make alternate plans for those members of your family who may require supervision outside the auditorium during the ceremony.  Because an indoor ceremony may be inconvenient for many of us, eliminating the outdoor ceremony will only be initiated as a final option.
